Internet Marketing Tips 101

All marketing depends on your customers, your audience.  The same is true for internet marketing but the difference is that your audience is virtual.  That’s why the first and most important step is to find out about your potential customers and the services or products you offer them.

  • Customer Research – you have you know who your potential customers are, what they want, how much they’re prepared to pay and what will draw them to your “store”.  Spend some time browsing through sites like Amazon and Clickbank.  You’ll be able to see what products and services are on offer, see which are the most (or least) popular.  One good idea is to see how many reviews a product has – statistically, any item with more than 20 reviews is one that has been sold to thousands of customers.  Another way to learn the needs of your target audience is to visit related forums or blogs. You’ll find a great deal of information both from experts and the general public, and you’ll be able to see what is being talked about and what the “readers” want!
  • Keywords – this is probably one of the most neglected areas of internet marketing.  That’s a pity, because the more time you spend researching the best and the most relevant keywords using tools like Travis Traffic and Google Adwords, the more traffic you’ll generate, the more potential customers will be exposed to your product and, the more money you’ll make!

Internet Marketing Tips for Your Website and blog

OK, you’ve done the research and know what products will generate you the most traffic/income.  You know who to target and the right key words and phrases that will get you the most Google hits.  Now it’s time for stage 2 – building the right sites to market your products to your audience.  Remember, there are all types of internet site: blogs, forums, sales letters, squeeze pages, landing pages; the list goes on and on.

  • Study sales writing – it doesn’t matter if your writing a landing page or a lengthy sales letter, knowing how to write effect sales copy is vital.  Remember, your words are what people will see, your words will draw them into your site and make them purchase what you have to offer.  If you can’t generate interest in your customers – they won’t be your customers!  There are many different ways to pitch your product; they depend on your target audience, your products or the type of web site.  Strong, enticing headlines, the benefits to the customer from your products or services, money back guarantees – these are just a few of the options available to you.
  • Email is the most important email marketing tool available to you.  But to send email, you need addresses and an account with an auto-responder service such as GetResponse or AWeber.  On great way to start harvesting email address is by offering visitors to your site a free newsletter and perhaps providing them something for free – free product reports, a short course or monthly tips.  Remember, more and more countries are enacting legislation against spam mail.  But once your audience has voluntarily signed up for your emails – you are free to contact them until they say stop.

Getting Traffic

You’ve done everything we’ve told you so far but now, you have to attract surfers to your site.  Just like any store, if nobody comes to your site then you’ll have no customers.  If you’ve built your site well, your next step is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and “back linking”.

  • Viral and Social Marketing.  Just having a site isn’t enough!  You have to flood the internet with good and relevant content that will point your audience back to your site!   Make use of sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Digg.  Millions of people daily visit these sites and if they find your content and it “talks to them”, they’ll come to your site.  Another way to generate traffic is to publish a blog where you provide the content that your potential audience wants and that will bring them to your site – become an expert, offer reviews, advice and provide your customers with added value that will draw them in.
  • Back Link Generation – One accepted way of generating traffic is to publish articles to back link directories or post on forums and blogs that allow comments.  Using marketing tools such as “SEO Quake” to find sites with a high page ranking (PR), you can post articles with embedded, “follow” links that will bring customers to your site.  Another excellent idea is to get your site listed on directories or governmental sites that have a high credibility or trust rating.

Above all, remember that your aim as an internet marketer is to attract customers and generate income.  To do this you need to know and reach your target audience and take the right steps to get as many of them as possible back to your site.  The more visits – the more customers and the bigger your income!
